Motorcycles in the East

Case study – Motorcycles in the East

The road safety partnerships in the East of England, supported by Highways England, collaborate on a wide range of initiatives and activities. The partnerships wanted to focus on motorcycle casualties, with a project to understand what the collision circumstances were (through data analysis) and a review of existing interventions.

We were commissioned to undertake a Service Delivery Review: a comprehensive review of interventions that had been delivered in recent years in the East, aimed at reducing motorcycle risk. The data collection process involved engaging with practitioners from the region to collate information on the types of intervention that had been delivered; their evidence-based; target audience; costs; and evaluation results.

The delivered outcome was a comprehensive report, summarising the activities and identifying best practice initiatives alongside gaps and opportunities for future collaboration. It led to a further research project, involving primary and secondary evidence to understand how young riders are involved in collisions and identify the effects of enhanced training provision.
